We’re playing Coachella this year! Tickets go on sale Friday at 10am PST here.
Wye Oak will return in 2014 with the highly anticipated follow-up to Civilian. As a warm-up, Jenn & Andy have announced a co-headlining tour with Future Islands on the way to Austin for SXSW. Tickets go on sale this Friday.
Wye Oak recently chatted with SPIN Magazine while recording their new album at Rare Book Room in Brooklyn. Jenn described a little of what we can expect saying: “There’s not a lick of guitar on this whole record. It basically inverts what we were responsible for. Andy was playing droney bass lines on keyboard. Now he’s responsible for the more upper register stuff that guitar would normally handle, while I’m playing bass lines on a bass guitar. The idea was really appealing to me because we had sort of hit a wall, just with the complete and total excess of touring that we had done, the use and overuse of that format. It tainted the guitar for me and I was finding it really, really hard to get anything out of it from a writing perspective. I wasn’t excited about it — too much baggage. It just felt tired to me.”
Don’t miss your chance to preview this new direction live!
Also, see Jenn perform as part of the upcoming No Other tour in which a collection of musicians will be performing Gene Clark’s album of the same name. More information and dates are here.
Wye Oak’s latest release Civilian as well as their full catalog is available now in the Merge Holiday store.

Wye Oak was commissioned to write and record a brand new song for the 2012 Adult Swim Singles Program. This year’s program has been expanded to include 12 consecutive weeks (that’s all summer!) with a new exclusive track debuting every Monday. The 2012 Adult Swim Singles Program will be featured at AdultSwim.com/singles from June 18 – September 9 and will include all-new, never-before-released tracks from Wavves, Flying Lotus, Death Grips, Elite Gymnastics, The Field, etc.
NPR’s All Songs Considered premiered the stream of Wye Oak’s new song “Spiral” today saying, “Virtually everything about “Spiral” departs from Wye Oak’s sound: the programmed beats, the clean guitar tones, the echo effects on Wasner’s vocal, the chugging pace. For fans of Civilian, it might be a jarring departure, but “Spiral” is a grower — all the more sinister for the surprises it doles out.”
Wye Oak will hit the road in July opening for the Dirty Projectors and have announced new headlining dates this fall with more to come. Civilian is available on CD, LP and digital download now in the Merge store.

Just a quick note to say THANK YOU to everyone who has supported us throughout this year, come to our shows, bought our records, given us a place to stay or a warm welcome. We’ve come to the end of nearly 200 shows in 2011, and we’re still standing, thanks to the warmth that you’ve given us.
Wye Oak will be staying pretty low key for the next little while as we write new material and live normal life for a change. However, we’ll still be active for some shows here and there. Two shows are already confirmed for February:
Thursday FEB 23rd @ The Troubador in Los Angeles, CA
Friday FEB 24th @ The Independed in San Francisco, CA as part of the Noise Pop Festival.
As a little holiday gift to you, we recorded this Brenda Lee Christmas classic for the AV Club.
Thanks again for the wonderful year, and see you soon!

Especially excited for that Paris date at Fleche D’or, as we played there on our first ever European tour, and that show happened to fall on the exact night that Obama was elected President. Here’s hoping that we can recreate some of that excitement upon our return. Here’s an old picture of the DJ at Fleche d’or that night. Nice.
